Jing, a financial analyst and devoted fashion consumer, writes one of my favorite fashion blogs. She recently posted about the not-so-innocent actions of certain fashion insiders who attended the private shopping event at Opening Ceremony before the boutique's Proenza Schouler for Target pop-up opened to the public.
"I arrived at the store at 11am on Friday, the opening time announced on the store's website. However, by the time I entered the store, almost all small sizes were gone. What happened?
[There] was a special party the night before for "VIP"s to make purchase ahead of the crowd. In addition, the Parsons' students were allowed to arrive at 9am on Friday to make purchase. Then I knew where those size XS and size 1 clothes went...eBay...Items are up and being marketed, at twice of the price."
She goes on to note that if she or her colleagues did the same with securities, they'd go to jail. How's that for perspective! This story struck me as a tad hilarious, but it makes you wonder: how much of the press is really wearing GO! International pieces?

Is this was vast consumerization does to people now? I feel like fashion has just entered the new millenium. The Enron millenium.

well, think of it this way, most people would rather wear a big-name designer bought at Target then shelling out 3 times the amount to wear the same name on a different item.

ps for Target is ugly in my humble opinion anyway.
Posted by: katie | March 11, 2007 at 07:51 PM
everyone was complaining about that, but opening ceremony did have a stock replenishment the very next day. i found most of the items i was looking for...and for the stuff i didn't i just sized up on.
when i was there they did let some of the ps design staff in early to make purchases before they opened the store while we all froze in line outside--but that is just politics. at the time i was pissed because i was freezing my a$$ off. i have since come to terms with the fact that this is just the way the world works...know someone or be someone and you'll get what you want. ...i should really get working on that! :)

The fluff on the PS line will probably pass if no one can buy it. Paying double on cheap clothes isn't fun. Have you heard anything on the fit with the clothes from that line?

Hey at least Parson's are teaching the little peckerheads something cause they sure aren't turning out too many sharp designers nowadays.
Seriously overrated and vastly overpriced factory.

Wow! I cant believe this, although I suppose its not suprising. Jessorz I see the angle...but is it good or bad? It's still manipulation. I think its all getting out of hand. I see the positive side of designers collaborating with the high street, but what was once positive is becoming too negative.

And my Target only had a few tees and a beautiful little jacket in XS!
Shame on the huge promos and lack of merchandise!

Has anyone told you that you are sort of a rip off of another fashion blog? I can't remember her blogs name but her name is Julie. But you soo sound like you are striving to be as on the ball with business and culture as her. I had no idea that more than one girl would tackle the same subject! Anyway, good luck to you! Maybe when you graduate and have a few more econ courses.

Elissa, if you read my blog you would see how truly different Julie and I are, and how vastly different our perspectives are.
Whereas I focus on high fashion and economics, Julie's fashion blog places greater emphasis on philosophy, social and cultural themes, and the occasional personal rant.
As a PR girl, I'm surprised you didn't do your research prior to posting that 'mean girl'-type comment! Are you a personal friend of Julie's?

Hey, your posts have inspired me! - I love the way you directly get to the point, and then work outwards. I’ve been trying to do figure out what I want to say about ,that would allow me to do exactly the same thing.
